President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Wednesday laid the foundation for the new eco-friendly headquarters of the FirstBank Group in Eko Atlantic City. The 40-story skyscraper, set to become Nigeria’s tallest building, symbolizes the nation’s ambition, progress, and commitment to sustainable development.

The groundbreaking ceremony marked a historic moment for Nigeria’s financial sector, as the state-of-the-art headquarters promises to redefine banking in Africa. The building, designed with cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly features, will set new standards for the financial services industry across the continent.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “Today, we lay the foundation for a monumental structure in Nigeria’s financial landscape—the FirstBank Iconic Tower. This 40-story edifice, the tallest in West Africa, is a testament to our nation’s economic strength and vitality. It reflects confidence in Nigeria’s future and our commitment to fostering transformative investments.”
Shettima praised FirstBank’s 130-year legacy, highlighting its role in empowering businesses, supporting families, and driving financial innovation. “FirstBank has extended its reach from Lagos to London and beyond, proudly flying Nigeria’s flag on the global stage. This tower will symbolize ambition and excellence, consolidating Lagos as a leading financial hub and showcasing the dynamism of Nigeria’s private sector,” he added.

FirstBank Group CEO, Olusegun Alebiosu, described the project as a reimagining of banking for future generations. “This new headquarters is not just a modern architectural masterpiece; it is a commitment to innovation and sustainability. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, presented the certificate of approval for the project, enabling immediate commencement of construction. Eko Atlantic City is set to become Africa’s model city, and this project is a testament to what we can achieve through collaboration and innovation.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the contributions of the Chagoury Group, the developers behind Eko Atlantic City, and called on other financial institutions to follow FirstBank’s example.
